RedRock's Take the Lead! Training Outline
Build & Sustain Mental Toughness
Emotions are powerful. They can be the fuel that motivates and at the same time they have the potential to get in the way of our most important business and personal relationships. As John Kotter of Harvard Business School stated, “because of the furious pace of change in business today, difficult to manage relationships sabotage more business than anything else – it is not a question of strategy that gets us into trouble; it is a question of emotions.” Success does not happen by accident. It is a process that occurs as we choose how to deal with those around us. Each moment provides the opportunity to make critical decisions and work toward victory by expanding our vision, stretching out to accomplish our goals, as well as assuming full responsibility for living, growing and contributing.
You will learn five key skills:
- Personal Awareness – The ability to recognize your influence on others.
- Integrity – The ability to let your intentions match your actions.
- Internal Motivation – The ability to do the right things for the right reasons.
- Empathy – The ability to recognize the emotions of others.
- Social Skills – The ability to build positive relationships.
Build Positive Relationships
The first step in unraveling any challenge in a relationship is to improve upon the skill of personal awareness. Once this skill is developed, a genuine appreciation for others develops. This is when the ability to lead, inspire, encourage, motivate, negotiate and persuade becomes a reality. During this session, each participant will receive and refer to a personal integrated behavior-motivator assessment and take part in group discussions and exercises to improve interpersonal communication. Once insight on how and why their own style of communication varies among specific people in various situations, positive relationships are established. Next comes the long-term positive results of collaboration.
You will learn to:
- Become a student of non-verbal communication and tonality.
- Adapt your behavior style to meet the behavior styles of others.
- Build positive relationships, even with those considered to be your adversaries.
Create Actionable Goals
A person’s level of success is proportional to what they set out to accomplish. For this reason, goals are vital for success in business. The way goals are defined and stated provides the make-or-break difference. This session is designed to help establish focus. While dreams are important, they won’t become reality unless they are stated as measurable goals. Once measurable, they become a vital part of the strategic foundation for success in business and personal life.
You will learn to:
- Create S.M.A.R.T. goals.
- Identify the difference between dreams and well-stated goals.
- Develop a strategy for goal accomplishment.
- Execute a tactical process for goal accomplishment.
- Identify motivation for personal goal achievement.
Leverage Your Time
Time is every human being’s single greatest non-replenishable resource. Even though it’s often believed otherwise, it’s not possible to save time, invest time or borrow it. However, it is possible to use time more effectively. Success is contingent on setting goals and allocating quality time against highly leveraged activities to accomplish those goals.
You will learn to:
- Delegate anything that isn’t part of your unique capability.
- Focus more than 85% of their time on important / non-urgent activities.
- Establish expectations to establish yourself as a leader.
- Eliminate time-wasters.
Motivate Your Team
Gone are the days of carrot and stick motivation and micro-management. Today’s business culture calls for leaders who can nurture intrinsically motivated teams. When this type of culture exists, teams learn to take initiative and solve complex problems with limited involvement from its leader.
During this session, leaders and managers will learn how to hold their teams accountable to the organization’s culture, which is defined by core values. Core values are derived from fundamental beliefs, and are guiding principles that shape character and guide actions.
Core values will help people understand right from wrong; they will determine if they are on the right path in leading others. Effective leaders hire, mentor, and motivate based on their organization’s core values. This allows them to be an active influence in the lives of others while taking the lead with integrity.
You will:
- Create and define your personal core values.
- Understand the value of intrinsic motivation.
- Gain insight on the importance of core values and culture.
- How to align your team with your organization’s core values.
- How to hold your team accountable to your organization’s core values.
Be an Effective Coach
Effective coaches provide the leadership necessary to influence long-term growth. When they embrace the opportunity to be a positive influence, their teams grow and develop. Coaches who empower teams to utilize their critical thinking skills to solve complex business issues are effective at managing change. It’s their responsibility to establish performance measurements that align with the core values of the organization and create accountability.
You will learn to:
- Be an effective coach.
- Hold your team accountable to accomplishing their goals.
- Be a manager who leads with positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Hold Your Team Accountable
Quality leadership hinges on accountability. If a team is not being held accountable, their leader isn’t leading. Every successful person recognizes that they attain a higher level of success when they are held accountable. In fact, they crave it. To create accountability, leaders must create structure, instill greatness, promote collaboration and promote greatness. It requires a great amount of courage for leaders to hold their teams accountable. This is because they must relinquish control to give others the opportunity to excel. Accountability not only increases productivity; it increases the predictability of results.
You will learn to:
- Develop a team that wants to be held accountable.
- Create a communication bridge between accountability and trust.
- Establish expectations for the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.
Create a Culture of Trust
A culture of trust is a direct result of great leadership. This type of environment allows all members of a team to work together and achieve extraordinary results. When trust exists, high-performing teams accomplish short-term objectives and attain long-range financial goals. During this session, participants will learn that the role of a leader isn’t to provide the answers, but to create an environment of trust where complex business issues can be solved through collaborative effort.
You will learn to:
- Be a leader whose influence is bigger than difficult-to-handle situations.
- Create an environment where everyone works together to accomplish common goals.
- Build long-term win/win relationships with your team.
